AI VFX: the shot fixes, one tool for each

Root does nine VFX jobs on a shot, each with its own tool and its own price: change things, remove things, make a shot longer, relight, pull depth, change the angle, lip sync, build a 3D prop and upscale. They all work in the same project, on its clips and stills, and every result is saved next to the original. The table below prices each one; the cheapest example is a depth and normal pass on a 10-second clip, at about $0.17.

VFX jobs and the tool for each

One line per job: the tool on Root, an example, what that example costs in dollars, and the guide with the details. 100 credits is $1.

“Up to” is the most it can cost; you are charged what the model reports it used. Prices marked “about” are for work that runs on Root's own machines: the price shown before the run is an estimate, and the bill is set by how long the run really takes. Re-angle's price is for building the scene; the stills and camera moves you capture from it cost nothing more.

A VFX pass on one shot, in order

Each step's result is a new take, so you can go back a step at any time.

  1. Fix the content. Remove what should not be there, or change it with a written instruction, before anything else. Every later step then works on the clean shot.
  2. Fix the length and the angle. Extend the shot if it ends too soon. For a still, build a Re-angle scene and capture the angle you need.
  3. Match the light. Relight the shot to a picture of the light in the shots around it.
  4. Make the passes for compositing. Pull a depth map and a normal map of the final shot, for fog, focus and layering in your compositing software.
  5. Upscale last. Upscale once the shot is locked, so every step before it works on the smaller, cheaper clip.

Where each job runs

  • Aleph 2.0, Trellis.2 and Topaz also run by API and from Claude and ChatGPT.
  • Seedance 2.0 Mini edit, Seedance 2.5 extend, SwitchX, Depth Pass, Re-angle and Lipsync 2 run in the Root app.
  • Everything runs in your browser, with nothing to install, on clips you made in Root and, for most of these tools, clips you upload.

AI VFX questions

What is AI VFX?

Visual effects work done by AI models instead of by hand: taking things out of a shot, changing the light, making a shot longer, finding a new angle, making depth passes. On Root each of these nine jobs has its own tool and its own price, listed above.

How much does AI VFX cost?

Each job is priced on its own, mostly by the length of the clip. The cheapest example in the table is a depth and normal pass on a 10-second clip, at about $0.17. The price shows before every run.

Can AI remove objects from a video?

Yes. Say what to take out and an edit tool remakes the clip without it: up to $0.80 for a five-second clip with Seedance 2.0 Mini edit. The Remove an object from video guide has the tools and how to word it.

Can I chain VFX jobs on one shot?

Yes. Each result is saved in your project, so you wire it into the next tool: remove an object, then relight the result, then upscale it. The original and every step stay in the project.

Which AI VFX tools work by API?

Aleph 2.0, Trellis.2 and Topaz, which also run from Claude and ChatGPT. The other six run in the Root app.
