What you can ask for

Ask in plain words. Claude or ChatGPT can:

  • Show every model in your workspace and what a run costs before it starts.
  • List your projects and shots, or make new ones.
  • Add a file to a project, from the chat or from a link.
  • Find any file in a project: your uploads, earlier takes, and which takes are approved.
  • Start a video or an image, wait for it, check on it, or stop it.
  • Give you a download link for any file.

Claude video generation, step by step

Claude can use anything already in your project as a reference, including what it made a minute ago. That's how four messages get you one character in three outfits, three locations and a finished shot:

  1. “Make a character sheet for Maya: early 30s, short black hair, red wool coat. Front, side and back on a plain grey background.”Claude picks an image model, shows you the price, and saves the sheet to your project.
  2. “Now make Maya in a grey suit, and again in running gear. Use the first sheet as the reference so it's the same face.”The first image is already in the project, so Claude passes it in as a reference.
  3. “Make three locations: a wet Tokyo street at night, a rooftop at dawn, and an empty subway car.”Each one lands in the same project, next to the character sheets.
  4. “Put Maya on the rooftop in the suit, walking to the edge as the sun comes up. Use Seedance 2.5, ten seconds, with her sheet and the rooftop as references.”Claude sends every reference with the prompt, waits for the render, and gives you the clip.

Your work stays in your project

Every image and clip lands in a Root project, under the shot you asked for. Open Root in your browser and it's all there: your uploads, every take, and which ones you approved. People you add to the project see the same thing, and you don't have to download anything before a link expires.

What it costs

You pay for each run in credits from your Root balance, at the same price as the app. 100 credits is $1. Ask “what does a ten-second Seedance clip cost?” and Claude will look it up before it starts anything. Runs that use reference files can cost more than the listed price. You can also use your own provider keys inside Root.

How to connect

You need a Root account and this address: https://root.film/api/mcp

Claude

  1. Open Claude, in the browser or the desktop app.
  2. Click your name in the bottom left, then Customize. On some accounts this is called Settings.
  3. Open Connectors.
  4. Press the plus button, then Add custom connector.
  5. Type Root as the name, and paste the Root address into the URL box.
  6. Press Add, then Connect.
  7. A Root sign-in page opens. Sign in, then press Allow.
  8. Start a new chat. Press the plus button under the message box, open Connectors, and make sure Root is switched on.

ChatGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT in a web browser. This does not work in the phone app yet.
  2. Click your name, then Settings, then Security and login.
  3. Turn on Developer mode.
  4. In Settings, open Apps. On some accounts this is called Plugins or Connectors.
  5. Press the plus button or Create.
  6. Type Root as the name, paste the Root address as the server URL, and choose OAuth for sign-in.
  7. Press Create. A Root sign-in page opens. Sign in, then press Allow.
  8. Start a new chat. Press the plus button, choose Developer mode, and pick Root.

Claude and ChatGPT video questions

Can Claude make videos?

Not on its own. Claude writes text and code, but it has no video model. Connect Root and Claude can start a video with models like Seedance, Kling, Veo and Runway, wait for it, and hand you the finished clip.

Can ChatGPT make videos with Root?

Yes, on any paid ChatGPT plan. Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT on the web, add Root with the address on this page, and ask for a clip. It does not work in the ChatGPT phone app yet.

Can I keep the same character across shots?

Yes. Everything Claude makes is saved in your project, so it can use an earlier image as a reference for the next one. Seedance 2.5 can take several reference images in one run, so a face, an outfit and a location can all go into the same shot.

Do I need to write code?

No. You paste one address and sign in to Root. After that you ask for what you want in the chat.

What does it cost?

What happens if Claude sends the same request twice?

If Claude sends exactly the same request twice in quick succession, Root normally returns the run that already started instead of charging for a second one.

Can I set a spending limit?

Not for Claude or ChatGPT yet. They sign in with your Root account rather than a key. If you build on the Root API yourself, you can give each API key a daily spending limit when you create it.

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol is the standard Claude and ChatGPT use to connect to other apps. You don't need to know how it works to use Root.

Who can see what I make?

Projects are private by default. Other members of your workspace see a project only after you add them. Workspace admins can see every project.
