Remove an object from video
How to remove an object from a video
In Root you remove something from a clip by saying what to take out. Wire the clip into an Edit Video node, pick Aleph 2.0 or a Seedance edit, and write the instruction; the edited clip keeps your clip's length. A five-second clip is $1.61 with Aleph 2.0, or up to $0.80 with Seedance 2.0 Mini edit at 720p.

Edit tools that take things out of a clip
What one edit costs, in dollars, by the length of the clip you edit. Seedance edits are priced at 720p. 100 credits is $1.
| Tool | Sizes | Longest clip | 5 s clip | 10 s clip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aleph 2.0 | — | 30 s | $1.61 | $3.22 |
| Seedance 2.5 edit | 480p, 720p or 1080p | 30 s | up to $2.41 | up to $4.81 |
| Seedance 2.0 edit | 480p, 720p, 1080p or 4K | 15 s | up to $1.62 | up to $3.24 |
| Seedance 2.0 Fast edit | 480p or 720p | 15 s | up to $1.25 | up to $2.48 |
| Seedance 2.0 Mini edit | 480p or 720p | 15 s | up to $0.80 | up to $1.58 |
“Up to” is the most it can cost; you are charged what the model reports it used. A Seedance edit is billed for the clip it reads and the clip it makes, so a five-second edit counts as 10 seconds, at a lower rate than a clip made from a prompt. Aleph 2.0 is priced on your clip's real length, rounded up to the next whole second.
How to word the removal
The tools read your words, not a drawing, so the instruction does the work of a mask.
- Name the thing plainly and say where it is: “Remove the red car parked on the left.”
- Say what should be there instead: “Remove the man walking in the background, and show the empty street behind him.”
- Say what must not change: “Keep the woman in front, her movement and the camera move exactly as they are.”
- Take out one thing per run. To remove a second object, run the edit again on the result.
- If a take is not clean, run it again or try the other tool on the same clip. Every take is kept, so you can compare them.
Remove an object, step by step
- Wire in the clip. Wire the clip you want to clean up into an Edit Video node; for a Seedance edit the input is labelled “source video”. An uploaded clip works too. For a Seedance 2.0, Seedance 2.0 Fast or Seedance 2.0 Mini edit, trim the clip to 15 seconds first.
- Pick the tool. Choose Aleph 2.0 (video edit) or one of the Seedance edits from the node's list. For a Seedance edit, pick the size. The table lists each one's sizes; only Seedance 2.0 edit makes 4K.
- Write the instruction. Say what to remove, what goes in its place and what stays, as in the examples above.
- Run it and compare. The price shows before you run it. The edited clip lands next to the original, so you can play them side by side.
Limits to know
- Aleph 2.0 takes clips from 2 to 30 seconds, at up to 30 frames a second, and keeps your clip's sound.
- Seedance 2.5 edit takes clips up to 30 seconds; Seedance 2.0 edit, Seedance 2.0 Fast edit and Seedance 2.0 Mini edit take up to 15. The node offers to trim a longer clip.
- The largest Seedance size is 4K, on Seedance 2.0 edit.
- The Seedance edits make a new soundtrack, or a silent clip if you turn Sound off; they do not carry your clip's sound over. Only Aleph 2.0 keeps your clip's own sound.
- For a single still picture, you can paint over the object on the Edit Image node and run FLUX Erase instead (see AI image editing).

Object removal questions
How do I remove an object from a video?
Upload the clip to Root, wire it into an Edit Video node, pick Aleph 2.0 or a Seedance edit, and write what to remove, for example “remove the red car on the left and show the road behind it”. A five-second clip is $1.61 with Aleph 2.0. No mask is needed.
How much does it cost to remove something from a video?
The longer the clip, the more it costs. Of the tools in the table, Seedance 2.0 Mini edit costs least: up to $0.80 for a five-second clip at 720p. Aleph 2.0 is $1.61 for five seconds. The price shows before every run.
Which tool should I use to remove an object from a video?
Try Seedance 2.0 Mini edit first to test the instruction cheaply. Use Seedance 2.5 edit for clips longer than 15 seconds, up to 30. Use Seedance 2.0 edit for 4K. If the clip has dialogue you need, use Aleph 2.0, the one that keeps your sound. Run two on the same clip and keep the cleaner take.
Do I have to draw a mask to remove something from a video?
No. These tools work from your words, so there is nothing to draw. Painting over an object is how you remove it from a single still picture, on the Edit Image node.
Can I remove a person from a video?
Yes, the same way as an object: say which person, where they are in the frame and what should be behind them, for example “remove the cyclist crossing on the left and show the empty road behind her”.
Can I remove objects from video by API?
Aleph 2.0 runs in the Root app, by API, and from Claude and ChatGPT. The Seedance edits run in the Root app, on the Edit Video node.
Can I try removing objects from video for free?
For a month, yes. The first month of Root's Beginner plan is free and comes with 650 credits, enough for four five-second Aleph 2.0 edits. After that the plan is $9 a month, and you can cancel whenever you like.
