AI video editing
Edit a video clip with AI
In Root you can change a clip you already have: describe the change in words, swap the people or an outfit, or restyle the whole shot. An edit of a five-second clip with Aleph 2.0 is $1.61. Every edit runs in the Root app and is saved next to the original.

Five AI edit tools on Root
What each tool changes, and what an edit costs for a source clip of each length, in dollars. 100 credits is $1.
| Tool | What it changes | 5 s clip | 10 s clip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aleph 2.0 | Say in words what should change, and it remakes the clip with that change. Keeps the sound. | $1.61 | $3.22 |
| Re-Cast (480p) | Swaps the people. Keeps the motion, timing and camera, and rebuilds everyone from your pictures. Keeps the sound. | $2.15 | $4.30 |
| Re-Dress (480p) | Swaps one object, outfit or location, and keeps the rest of the shot. Keeps the sound. | $2.15 | $4.30 |
| Wan 2.2 VACE restyle | Restyles the clip, keeping its movement and timing. Comes back without sound. | about $1.00 | about $2.00 |
| MiniMax H3 swap (1080p) | Swaps a character or a product into the clip from your pictures. The clip's motion and camera stay; new sound is made with the picture. | about $1.65 | about $3.30 |
Re-Cast and Re-Dress at 720p: $4.55 for a five-second clip. Prices marked “about” are for work that runs on Root's own machines: the price shown before the run is an estimate, and the bill is set by how long the run really takes.
Limits for each tool
- Aleph 2.0 takes clips from 2 to 30 seconds, at up to 30 frames a second. It is priced on the clip's real length, rounded up to the next whole second.
- Re-Cast and Re-Dress take clips up to 30 seconds and up to 8 pictures, at 480p or 720p. Try a shot at 480p, then run the one you keep at the higher size.
- MiniMax H3 swap makes up to 15 seconds at 1080p or 1440p, from up to 3 pictures, and needs a prompt saying what to swap.
- Wan 2.2 VACE restyle can use a Wan model you have trained on your own character or style.
How to edit a video with AI in Root
- Add an Edit Video node. In a project's node graph, drop one in and wire in the clip: one you made in Root, or one you upload.
- Pick the tool. Choose the edit from the node's list, for example Aleph 2.0, Re-Cast, Re-Dress, the restyle or the swap.
- Say what changes. Write the change, and wire in pictures of the new cast, object or product where the tool takes them.
- Check the price and run. The price shows before you run it. The edited clip is saved next to the original, so you can compare takes.
Finishing a clip
Once the edit is right, these tools finish the shot. Each has its own page with prices.
- Upscale it 2x or 4x with Topaz or SeedVR2 (see AI video upscaler).
- Change the light to match the next shot with SwitchX (see AI relighting).
- Make the mouth match new dialogue (see AI lip sync).
- Pull a depth map and a normal map for compositing (see Depth maps).

AI video editing questions
What is the best AI video editor?
It depends on the change. On Root, Aleph 2.0 is one of the tools for a change you can describe in words ($1.61 for a five-second clip). Re-Cast swaps the people, Re-Dress swaps one object, outfit or location, MiniMax H3 swaps in a character or product from your pictures, and Wan 2.2 VACE restyles the whole shot. All of them work on the same clip in the same project, so you can try two and keep the better take.
How much does AI video editing cost?
It is priced by the length of the clip you edit. Of the tools in the table, the Wan 2.2 VACE restyle costs least: about $1.00 for a five-second clip (an estimate). The table above prices each tool, and the price shows before every run.
Can I edit a video I shot myself?
Yes. Upload the clip to a project and wire it into an Edit Video node. Clips you made in Root work the same way.
How long can the clip be?
Up to 30 seconds for Aleph 2.0, Re-Cast and Re-Dress, and 15 seconds for the MiniMax H3 swap. For a longer scene, edit it shot by shot and cut the shots together in Root's timeline.
Does AI editing keep the sound?
Aleph 2.0, Re-Cast and Re-Dress keep the clip's sound. The MiniMax H3 swap makes new sound with the picture. The Wan 2.2 VACE restyle comes back without sound, so add it back in the timeline.
Can I swap an actor in a clip?
Yes. Re-Cast rebuilds the people from your pictures and keeps the motion and camera, from $2.15 for five seconds at 480p. The MiniMax H3 swap puts a character from your pictures into the clip.
Can I try AI video editing for free?
For a month, yes. The first month of Root's Beginner plan is free and comes with 650 credits, enough for four five-second Aleph 2.0 edits. After that the plan is $9 a month, and you can cancel whenever you like.
