Turn an image into a 3D model

Give Root a photo of a character, prop or product and get back a textured 3D model you can download or put straight into a scene. Pick from three AI 3D model generators: Rodin, Trellis.2 and Pixal3D.

From image to 3D model in Root

How it works

  1. Open a project and add a 3D Model node.
  2. Connect a photo. For Rodin or Trellis.2 you can add more angles of the same subject.
  3. Pick a model and a level of detail. The price shows before you run it.
  4. A few minutes later you have a textured GLB. View it in Root, download it, or place it in a 3D Scene.

What a 3D model costs

Price per model, in dollars. 100 credits is $1. Failed runs are not charged.

Rodin (Hyper3D)$0.46
Trellis.2$0.29$0.35$0.41
Pixal3D$0.35$0.49

Rodin has one price; Trellis.2 and Pixal3D are priced by mesh detail. A dash means that model doesn't offer that option. Texture size doesn't change the price. You can also run Rodin with your own Rodin key. See every model's price

From 3D model to finished shot

Most people want more than the mesh. In Root you can place it in a 3D Scene, light it, frame it with a camera, and send that frame to an image or video model. Because every shot starts from the same mesh, the product or character keeps its shape from one shot to the next, which a prompt alone rarely manages.

You can also call all three models from the Root API or ask for one in Claude or ChatGPT.

Image to 3D questions

How do I turn an image into a 3D model?

Add a 3D Model node to a Root project, connect your photo, pick Rodin, Trellis.2 or Pixal3D, and run it. A few minutes later you have a textured 3D model in GLB format that you can view, download or use in a 3D scene.

How much does it cost to make a 3D model from a photo?

Between $0.29 and $0.49 per model on Root, depending on the model and the level of detail. You see the price before you run it, and failed runs are not charged.

Can I use more than one photo?

Yes. Rodin takes up to 5 photos of the same subject and Trellis.2 up to 4. More angles give the model less to guess. Pixal3D works from one photo.

What file format do I get?

A GLB file: a textured 3D mesh that opens in Blender, Unreal, Unity and most other 3D software.

What is Rodin 3D?

Rodin is Hyper3D's image-to-3D model. On Root you run it from your credit balance, or with your own Rodin key if you have one.

Which image-to-3D model should I use?

Use Rodin when you have several photos of a character, prop or product. Use Trellis.2 for glass, thin parts and see-through materials. Use Pixal3D when you have one photo and the model's front has to match it exactly.

Can I use the 3D model to make video?

Yes. Place it in a 3D Scene in Root, set up the camera, and use the render as the starting point for an image or video model. The object stays the same shape from shot to shot because it comes from the same mesh.

Is there an API for image to 3D?

Yes. The Root API accepts rodin-3d, trellis-2 and pixal3d as model ids, with your photo as the first image. The finished GLB is saved to the project you name.
