Wan Animate

Wan 2.2 Animate: put your character into a real performance

Swap a person in a video for your own character, or bring a picture of your character to life from a video of someone moving. Root runs Wan 2.2 on its own GPUs, so there is nothing to install and no key to add.

What each Wan workflow does

Wan Animate (replace a character)

Give it a video of a person and a picture of your character. It swaps your character in for the person, following their movement, in the original shot.

Wan Animate 2 (animate a still)

Give it a picture of your character and a video of someone moving. It animates your picture with that performance, as a new clip of its own.

Wan 2.2 VACE (restyle a video)

Restyle a video you already have, keeping its movement and timing.

Wan 2.2 (text to video)

Make a clip from a prompt.

Tips from our own runs

  • Wan Animate finds the person to replace in the first frame of your video. If they walk in later, nothing is replaced, so trim the clip to start with them in shot.
  • Wan Animate 2 makes a new clip from your picture. It does not put the character back into your original video's background; use Wan Animate for that.
  • Every Wan workflow here can use a style or character model you trained in Root, so every shot keeps the same look.

What Wan costs on Root

Wan runs on Root's GPUs and is charged for how long the run takes on our machines, so these are estimates, in dollars; 100 credits is $1. The app shows the estimate before every run.

WorkflowEstimate, 5 sEstimate, 10 s
Wan Animate (replace a character)about $0.60about $1.20
Wan Animate 2 (animate a still)about $1.10about $2.20
Wan 2.2 VACE (restyle a video)about $1.00about $2.00
Wan 2.2 (text to video)about $1.00about $2.00

A dash means that workflow can't make a clip that long. Compare every model

Wan Animate questions

What is Wan Animate?

Wan 2.2 Animate is an open video model that moves a character to match a real performance. On Root it does two jobs: replace a person in a video with your character, or animate a picture of your character from a video of someone moving.

Why wasn't my character swapped in?

Wan Animate finds the person to replace in the first frame of the video. If they aren't clearly in shot at the start, it has nobody to replace. Trim the clip so it starts with them in frame, then run it again.

What's the difference between Wan Animate and Wan Animate 2?

Wan Animate puts your character into the original video, in place of the person. Wan Animate 2 makes a new clip from your picture, moving the way the person in the video moves, without the original background.

How much does Wan Animate cost?

It runs on Root's own GPUs and is charged for how long the run takes on our machines. A five-second Wan Animate clip is estimated at $0.60, and you see the estimate before you start.

Do I need a key or my own GPU?

No. Wan runs on Root's GPUs. You pay from your Root balance, and there is nothing to install.

Where do I run Wan Animate?

In the Root app. Put the video and your character picture in a project, choose Character Replacement or Wan Animate 2 (Motion Transfer), and the result lands next to your other takes. It runs in the app only for now.
