How to lip sync a video in Root
- Add a Lipsync node. In a project's node graph, drop one in. Every take it makes is saved to the project.
- Wire in the clip and the voice. Wire in the clip of the person speaking, and the voice: an audio track, or another clip whose sound you want.
- Pick the model. Sync 3 is already selected. Switch model if you want the controls the others have.
- Say what happens if the lengths differ. Choose whether the clip loops, plays forwards then backwards, stops at whichever ends first, changes speed to fit, or the voice is padded with silence.
- Check the price and run. The price shows before you run it. The lip synced clip lands in your project, with the voice on it.
Tips for a better lip sync
- With Lipsync 2 Pro and Lipsync 2, start from a clip where the person is already talking. On a still face they move the mouth very little.
- Lipsync 2 Pro and Lipsync 2 let you set how much the mouth moves and turn on a check for hands or objects in front of the face. Sync 3 does both by itself.
- With more than one person in the shot, turn on active speaker detection so only the person talking is changed.
- Need the voice first? Make it in Root with a Voice node, then wire it straight into the Lipsync node.

Lip sync questions
How much does AI lip sync cost?
On Root it is priced per second of video. Ten seconds is $1.53 with Sync 3, $0.96 with Lipsync 2 Pro and $0.58 with Lipsync 2. The price shows before you run it.
What is Sync 3?
Sync 3 is the newest of the three lip sync models Root runs, and the one it uses unless you pick another. It handles a face that is partly covered, by a hand or an object, by itself.
What do I need to lip sync a video?
A clip of the person and a voice track. The track can be an audio file, a voice made in Root, or another clip whose sound you want to use.
Can I make the voice in Root too?
Yes. A Voice node turns your lines into speech with an ElevenLabs voice. Wire it into the Lipsync node with the clip.
What if the voice is longer than the clip?
You choose. The clip can loop, play forwards then backwards, stop when the shorter one ends, or change speed to fit the voice. When the clip is the longer one, you can pad the voice with silence.
Can I lip sync by API or from Claude?
No. Lip sync runs in the Root app. Clips you make by API or from Claude are saved to your project, so you can lip sync them there.
Can I try AI lip sync for free?
For a month, yes. The first month of Root's Beginner plan is free and comes with 650 credits, enough for four ten-second lip syncs with Sync 3. After that the plan is $9 a month, and you can cancel whenever you like.
