Connect Claude or ChatGPT

You can connect Root to Claude or ChatGPT. Then you can ask for things in plain words, like make a clip from this image, and the assistant does it in Root for you.

You do not need an API key. The assistant asks you to sign in to Root once. After that it works as you, and sees the same projects you see.

Anything the assistant makes spends this workspace's credits, exactly as if you made it in the app. Ask it what something costs before you say go.

To connect Claude, follow these steps. It works on every Claude plan, and a free Claude account can add one connector.

1. Open Claude, in the browser or the desktop app.
2. Click your name in the bottom left, then Customize. On some accounts this is called Settings.
3. Open Connectors.
4. Press the plus button, then Add custom connector.
5. Type Root as the name, and paste the Root address into the URL box.
6. Press Add, then Connect.
7. A Root sign-in page opens. Sign in, then press Allow.
8. Start a new chat. Press the plus button under the message box, open Connectors, and make sure Root is switched on.

To connect ChatGPT, follow these steps. You need a paid ChatGPT plan, because the free one cannot add connectors.

1. Open ChatGPT in a web browser. This does not work in the phone app yet.
2. Click your name, then Settings, then Security and login.
3. Turn on Developer mode.
4. In Settings, open Apps. On some accounts this is called Plugins or Connectors.
5. Press the plus button or Create.
6. Type Root as the name, paste the Root address as the server URL, and choose OAuth for sign-in.
7. Press Create. A Root sign-in page opens. Sign in, then press Allow.
8. Start a new chat. Press the plus button, choose Developer mode, and pick Root.

On a work ChatGPT account, your admin may need to allow Developer mode first. If you cannot find the switch, ask them.

Once it is connected, just ask. Here is what the assistant can do in Root for you.

• Show the models, and what each one costs your workspace.
• List your projects, make a new one, and show or add shots inside a project.
• List the files in a project or shot: your uploads, and the takes Root made.
• Tell you which takes are approved.
• Add a file to a project, from the chat or from a link.
• Start a video or image, wait for it, check on it, or stop it.
• Give you a download link for any file, and show you small images.

Some things you could say to it.

• What video models can I use, and what does a five second clip cost?
• Show me the approved takes in Shot 1 of Demo Project.
• Use the image I uploaded to Shot 1 as the first frame and make a five second clip.
• Download the newest take in Shot 2.

Nothing can be deleted this way. The assistant can stop a job you started, but deleting projects, shots or files is only done in the app.

If Claude says it cannot list your projects, check models or start a video, a tool may be blocked. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, then Root. Any tool with the crossed-out circle selected is blocked, and Claude cannot see it at all. Pick the hand to have Claude ask you first, or the tick to always allow it. Then start a new chat.

If the assistant says it cannot see something new, disconnect Root and connect it again. Assistants only load the list of what Root can do when they connect.

If you belong to more than one workspace, the assistant will ask which one to use. Just tell it the name.
