How to make an animated clip in Root
- Pick the look. Describe the style in words: “2D hand-drawn, flat colours, thick outlines”, “3D cartoon, soft light, rounded shapes” or “stop-motion clay”. Or wire a picture whose look you like into the style input of an image model, and only its look is borrowed. Root's image models that take a style picture include Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2 and Seedream 5.0 Pro.
- Make the first frame. Add an Image Gen node, write the shot in that style and run a few takes. Keep the one you would be happy to see as the opening frame.
- Animate it. Add a Video Gen node and wire the frame into its init input. Write only what moves and what the camera does, and keep the style words in the prompt.
- Cut it together. Put the shots on Root's timeline, trim them, add music and export. A timeline holds up to 10 minutes, and exporting it is free.

Keep the character the same in every shot
Animation falls apart when the character changes between shots. Four things keep it steady.
- Make a character sheet first: the character from the front, the side and the back, in your style. Every shot after this uses it.
- Make each first frame with the sheet wired in as a reference. Seedream 4.0 takes references and costs $0.04 an image.
