Text to 3D: from a prompt to a 3D model
Root makes a 3D model from text in two steps. An image model draws the object from your prompt, then an image-to-3D model builds a textured 3D model from that picture. The two together start at $0.31.

How to make a 3D model from text in Root
- Write the prompt for a 3D-ready picture. Ask for one object, whole and in frame, on a plain background, in soft even light, seen from a three-quarter angle. “A brass diving helmet, whole object, three-quarter view, plain grey background, soft studio light.”
- Make the image. Run it in an Image Gen node and keep the cleanest take. This picture decides the colours and materials of the finished model, so it is worth a few tries.
- Add more angles if you can. Wire the image into an image model as a reference and ask for the side and the back of the same object. Rodin takes up to 5 pictures and Trellis.2 up to 4; more angles leave it less to guess.
- Build the 3D model. Wire your best image into a 3D Model node's lead photo input, any extra angles into the others, choose a model and its settings, and press Build mesh. It usually takes a few minutes.
- Use it. Spin it round in the node, press Send to 3D scene to place it and shoot it, or download the GLB from Assets, under 3D Models.
Prompt to 3D model, both steps priced
Three priced plans for the two steps, if every run works first time. Trellis.2 and Pixal3D are priced by the resolution you pick; Rodin (Hyper3D) has one price. The image to 3D guide has every 3D price. 100 credits is $1.
| Plan | Step 1: image | Step 2: 3D model | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| The cheapest draft | Krea 2 Turbo, one image | Trellis.2 at its lowest resolution (512) | $0.31 |
| Five angles of one object | Seedream 5.0 Pro, 5 images | Rodin (Hyper3D) | $0.76 |
| One image, front matched exactly | Nano Banana Pro, one image | Pixal3D at its highest resolution (1536) | $0.65 |
Step 1: the cheapest images to start from
One image at the model's standard size. At a few cents a try, it pays to make several and keep the best. The best AI image generator guide compares the rest.
| Image model | Use it for | One image |
|---|---|---|
| Krea 2 Turbo | Fast drafts while you work out the design. | $0.02 |
| Seedream 4.0 | Cheap drafts, and side and back views from a reference. | $0.04 |
| Nano Banana | Quick drafts, and edits to a picture you like. | $0.05 |

Text to 3D questions
How do I turn text into a 3D model?
In two steps. Make an image of the object from your prompt with an image model, then turn that image into a textured 3D model with Rodin, Trellis.2 or Pixal3D. On Root the two together start at $0.31; the 3D step alone is $0.29 to $0.49.
Can Root make a 3D model straight from text?
Not in one run. Root's 3D models build from pictures, so an image model draws the object first. That step costs from $0.02 an image, and lets you get the design right as a flat picture before you pay for the 3D build.
What should a text-to-3D prompt say?
Name one object and its materials and colours, since the picture sets them. Ask for the whole object in frame, on a plain background, in soft even light, from a three-quarter angle. Keep other objects and scenery out of the picture, so there is one thing to build.
Which image model should I use for text to 3D?
A cheap one while you work out the design: Krea 2 Turbo is $0.02 an image. For the picture you build from, one that holds fine detail, such as Nano Banana Pro at $0.16. To add the side and back views, use a model that takes references, such as Seedream 5.0 Pro.
How much does the 3D step cost?
$0.29 to $0.49 a model on Root, set by the model and, on Trellis.2 and Pixal3D, the resolution you pick. The image to 3D guide compares the three 3D models and their prices.
Can I ask Claude or ChatGPT for a 3D model from a description?
Yes. The image models and the 3D models run in the Root app, by API, and from Claude and ChatGPT, so one chat can make the picture and then build the 3D model from it.
Can I try text to 3D for free?
For a month, yes. The first month of Root's Beginner plan is free and comes with 650 credits, enough for 20 3D models made from a prompt, image and 3D model together. After that the plan is $9 a month, and you can cancel whenever you like.
