AI video prices

The cheapest AI video generator, clip by clip

The cheapest clip in the table below is $0.18, made with Luma Ray 3.2 (5 s, 540p). Here is a low-cost clip from each of 13 video models on Root, from one account, and what that one clip works out to per second. The per-second figure is for that clip only: a longer clip, a larger size or sound can change the rate.

AI video made in Root

One low-cost clip from each model

One low-cost clip from each model, at its smallest size and the shortest length Root sets, cheapest first. The note under the table lists the exceptions. Prices are in dollars; 100 credits is $1.

Kling 3.0 Omni also makes clips shorter than five seconds, which cost less than the clip shown. Luma Ray 3.2, MiniMax H3 (Hailuo 3.0) and Runway Gen-4.5 have no shortest length set in Root, so they are priced here at five seconds. The app shows the price of any length before you run it. Kling 2.6 is shown at 1080p with sound, the clip it has a proven price for. A clip with no size shown is from a model with no size to choose. Prices marked “about” are for work that runs on Root's own machines: the price shown before the run is an estimate, and the bill is set by how long the run really takes.

Why a per-second price can mislead

The per-second figures above are for those clips only. Multiply one out and you can be wrong, because:

  • Some models have a shortest clip: four seconds on all four Seedance models and five seconds on FLUX 3 Video. Ask for less and you get, and pay for, that length.
  • Some make set lengths only: Kling 3.0, Kling 2.6 and Kling 2.5 Turbo make clips of 5 or 10 seconds and Veo 3.1 makes clips of 4, 6 or 8 seconds.
  • Veo 3.1 makes 1080p and 4K clips at eight seconds only, so a shorter clip at those sizes isn't on offer.
  • Luma Ray 3.2 costs more a second for a longer clip: $0.18 for 5 seconds at 540p, but $0.52 for 10 seconds.
  • Sound adds to the price on some models and not on others. The AI video with sound guide prices each model with and without it.

How to spend less on AI video

  • Find the shot on a low-cost model at a small size. Make the final take on the model you want only once the prompt works.
  • Make the clip as short as the shot needs. Cut several short clips together on Root's timeline instead of asking for one long one.
  • Turn sound off when you will add music or sound later, on a model where sound costs extra.
  • Check the price on the node before you run it. It changes as you change the length, the size and the sound.

AI video price questions

What is the cheapest AI video generator?

In the table above, Luma Ray 3.2 makes the cheapest clip: $0.18 for 5 s, 540p. Some models also make clips shorter than the ones in the table, which can cost less, and the app shows the price of any length before you run it. The cheapest model for a job depends on the size, length and sound you need, so the tables above give each model's lowest price at the lengths shown and the cheapest at 720p and 1080p.

How much does AI video cost per second?

For the clips in the table above, from $0.036 a second, for a 5 s, 540p Luma Ray 3.2 clip, to $0.460, for a 4 s, 720p Veo 3.1 clip. That is the rate for those clips only: set lengths, shortest lengths, the size and sound all change what a clip costs.

What is the cheapest AI video with sound?

In the table above, Seedance 2.0 Mini: $0.25 for 4 s, 480p with sound. Some models make shorter clips with sound that can cost less, and the app shows the price before you run it. The AI video with sound guide shows what sound adds on each model.

What does the cheapest 1080p AI video cost?

Without sound, $0.65 for a 5 s, 1080p clip on Kling 3.0 or Kling 3.0 Omni. With sound, about $0.33 for a 5 s, 1080p, Turbo quality clip on MiniMax H3 (Hailuo 3.0). That model runs on Root's own machines, so the price is an estimate; of the models priced exactly, Kling 3.0 Omni and Kling 2.6 each make it for $0.81.

Do I pay for an AI video that fails?

No. A run that fails costs nothing on Root, with one exception: a Runway run its content filter rejects. Runway charges us for those and does not refund it, so they are charged to you.

Is the price the same by API and in the app?

Yes. A clip costs the same credits whether you make it in the app, by API or from Claude or ChatGPT, and each way shows the price first: the node in the app, the price list by API, and the quote in Claude and ChatGPT. Models that run on Root's own machines run in the app only.

Can I try these video models for free?

For a month, yes. The first month of Root's Beginner plan is free and comes with 650 credits, enough for 36 Luma Ray 3.2 clips (5 s, 540p). After that the plan is $9 a month, and you can cancel whenever you like.
